The history of doctrine demonstrates progressive development. This progression will reach its finale when Christ returns and expels every last vestige of error from his church. Therefore, if we regard the 1689 Confession as the Word of God, spiritual stagnation and theological decline will mar Reformed Baptists. Presbyterianism too will decay, if our brethren treat the Westminster standards as Scripture. Dutch Calvinism will also shrivel, if our brethren act like the Three Forms of Unity are inspired.
